PART TIME RECREATION DIRECTOR

Responsible for the supervision and organization of recreational and sociocultural activities at outdoor/indoor facilities.  Evening, holiday and weekend work for special events required. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) and a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in recreation work.  Recent college graduates and/ or associates degree with 5+ years recreation experience are welcome to apply.

Primary Responsibility: planning and oversight of recreation programs, sports and community events and summer camp. Additional responsibilities include management of park usage, spray park operations/function and budget preparation/oversight for all municipal recreation programs and events (including seasonal and summer camp hiring, staff management and oversight). 

  • Must have strong comfort and experience in planning and organization of recreation programs and community events for municipalities.
  • knowledge of public sector finance/purchasing laws or desire to be trained in such.
  • Must have management of staff experience and pool experience a plus.
  • Oversee recruiting, hiring and scheduling of seasonal staff and training (including cross training) of all seasonal staff (with oversight of Administrator)
  • Dynamic leadership skills and ability to work well with volunteers
  • Must have a strong comfort in Microsoft programs.
  • Knowledge of/willingness to learn Edmunds
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Knowledgeable in operation of spray park equipment (or willing to become knowledgeable).
  • Required attendance at 1 council meeting per month to provide department report.
  • Develop and oversee seasonal sports programs and/or leagues (ie. soccer, baseball, basketball, football) for children
  • Responsible for the coordination of marketing and promotion of Hofstra Park and Recreation Department and its programs and facilities
  • Create flyers, press releases, newspaper ads
  • Advertising
  • Prepare brochure(s) for programs
  • Signs and banners
  • Flyers prepared for Social Media and website
  • Solicit grants, partnerships, donation
